1) The lab has been recorded as the directions that follow: Record the mass of the gray and yellow pendulum balls as listed on the screen. Make sure the “Friction” button indicates that friction is OFF. Drag the gray ball upwards until it reaches a height of about 50 cm.(a blue line will help mark just where the ball is) You can drag the meter stick, found to the right, over if you wish. Press the “Start Pendulum” button to release the ball. Note where the ball ends its right upward swing. Allow the ball to swing several times and then click on the “Friction” button and observe what happens.
2) Press “Reset” to stop the pendulum. Click on the yellow ball to switch the hanging ball to a different mass. Perform the same procedure found in #1 above.
3) Press “Reset” to stop the pendulum. Lift the ball up to 50 cm. Grab the small rod clamp found on the table and attach it to the vertical stand, holding our pendulum, at about 30 cm in height. It will snap into place. This clamp holds a rod that sticks out and prevents the pendulum wire from passing. Release the pendulum. You will notice that when the pendulum is straight down, the wire hits the rod clamp and the length of the pendulum changes to a shorter value. Note the height of the ball at the top of its right swing.
